How to connect to a PC - LUMIX cameras (2023)

You can transfer photos from the camera to a PC by connecting the camera and the PC.

Lumix cameras can be connected to any PC capable of recognizing a mass storage device.

Transfer images to a PC


Using a USB connection

  • Connect the computer and the camera with the USB connection cable (supplied).
    • Turn on your Lumix camera and PC before connecting.
    • Check the directions of the connectors and connect them directly or disconnect them directly. (Otherwise, the connectors may be bent and deformed, which may cause a malfunction.)
    • Do not use any other USB connection cable except the supplied one or a genuine Panasonic USB connection cable (DMW-USBC1).
  • Press [▼ / ▲] to select [personal computer] and then press [MENU/SETUP].
    • DMC-FH22, DMC-FH27, DMC-FP5, DMC-FP7, DMC-FX700:
      • A unit ([LUMIX]) is displayed in [Computer]
    • DMC-FH2, DMC-FH22, DMC-FH25, DMC-FH5, DMC-FP5, DMC-FP7, DMC-FX700:
      • A unit ([removable disc]) is displayed in [My computer]
  • Drag and drop files and folders from the camera to the PC.
    • DMC-FH4, DMC-FH6
      • To use "FOTOFUNSTUDIO" to copy photos to your computer. For details on how to use, seeFOTOFUNSTUDIOmanual.
      • When the image transfer is complete, safely disconnect the USB connection cable.

Observation:

  • If the remaining battery power is low while the camera and PC are communicating, the alarm will sound. Disconnect the USB connection cable safely. Otherwise, the data may be destroyed.
  • Before inserting or removing a card, turn off the camera and disconnect the USB connection cable. Otherwise, the data may be destroyed.

Transfer over Wi-Fi

Press [Menu] → [to configure] → [Wifi] → [wifi function] → [new connection] → [Send images while recording] / [Send images stored in the camera] → [personal computer]


  1. Select [via network] o [straight] to connect.
  2. Enter the name of the computer you want to connect to.
    • For Mac, enter the NetBIOS name
  3. Select the folder you want to send to.
  4. Check the send settings and select [Define]
    • To change the shipping settings, press the View button.
  5. Take a photo using [Send images while recording].
  6. Select the image use [Send images stored in the camera].

Observation:

  • Folders sorted by upload date are created in the specified folder, and images are saved in these folders.
  • If the screen to enter a user account and password appears, enter the one you have set up on your PC.
  • If the computer name contains spaces etc., the name may not be recognized correctly. If you are unable to connect, we recommend that you change your computer name to a combination of 15 or fewer alphanumeric characters.
    • For Mac, NetBIOS name.
  • If the operating system or security software enable a firewall, your camera may not be able to connect to your computer.
  • When Bluetooth auto transfer is on, the Wi-Fi function is disabled.

Using an SD card

The camera is a "plug and play" USB product. When the camera is connected to the computer via USB, it is recognized as a drive and can be accessed via “My computer”. By double clicking on “My computer", you will see a list of all the drives located on your computer [31⁄2 floppy disk (A), local disk (C), etc.].

If the camera is successfully connected, you will see a "removable disc", which is the camera driver.


To find your images

  1. Double click "removable disc" and you will see a file folder called "DCIM".
  2. Double click "DCIM" and you will see a folder called "100 up" or similar as it varies depending on the camera.
  3. Double click "100 upThe camera folder and images should be listed.

To save your images

  1. press "CTRL+A" or using the file menu, select "EDIT-SELECT ALL".
  2. Select "CTRL+C" o "EDIT-COPY".
  3. Using Windows Explorer (WINDOWS KEY + E), select the folder on your hard drive where you want to save the images. You can create a new folder before copying or use the Windows default "My pictures" folder. When you are in the folder where you want to save your images, press "CTRL+V" or using the file menu, select "EDIT-PICK".

At this point you should see the images copied or being copied to the assigned folder.

Image Transfer to Mac


The supplied software (PHOTOfunSTUDIO) is not compatible with Mac.
  1. Connect the camera to the Mac via USB by selecting PC in the camera connection options. The camera will be installed using built-in drivers on your Mac and will appear on your desktop.
  2. iPhoto should start automatically when your camera is connected to your Mac and give you the option to import your Motion JPEG photos and videos. We recommend using OSX 10.4 onwards and iPhoto 08 onwards.
  3. To download your AVCHD video, if this option is available on your camera, you'll need to use Apple's iMovie. iMovie will not open automatically.
  4. You will need to open iMovie and click the Import button on the left side of the software.

Playback on PC (PHOTOfunSTUDIO)

  1. To install the supplied software (PHOTOfunSTUDIO), first close all running applications.
  2. Check the operating environment of PHOTOfunSTUDIO 8.0 or 9.0 LE (the version of the supplied software varies depending on the model).
    • See the operating instructions of "PHOTOfunSTUDIO" for details on the operating environment.
  3. Insert the supplied software CD-ROM. The installation menu will open.
  4. Click no [forms] in the installation menu.
  5. Click on [recommended installation]. Proceed with the installation according to the messages that appear on the screen.
    • The software compatible with your PC will be installed.
    • PHOTOfunSTUDIO is not compatible with a Mac (Apple) computer.

To create a folder that receives images


When using PHOTOfunSTUDIO

  1. Instalar o PHOTOfunSTUDIO sin PC.
    • Visit this site to download the latest software if you are installing PHOTOfunSTUDIO for the first time.
    • Please visit this website to download the latest software update program for PHOTOfunSTUDIO 10.0 AE users.
  2. Create a folder that receives images with PHOTOfunSTUDIO.
  • Some PCs can read directly from the card removed from the camera. For more information, see the operating instructions for your PC.
  • If the computer you are using is not compatible with SDXC memory cards, a message may appear asking you to format them. (If you do, the recorded images will be erased, so don't choose to format.) If the card is not recognized,see the support site.

Observation:Software for playing or editing images is not provided with the DMC-ZS45.

About the camera folder structure


The content (folder structure) of the card/internal memory of the camera is displayed on a PC as follows:

Cannot install camera software driver


The message you may be getting is for Windows logo testing, which only indicates that Microsoft has not tested this software for compatibility. Panasonic has thoroughly tested this software and confirms that it is compatible with Windows XP. Just click [go on anyway] and continue with the installation of the driver software.

  • It is not necessary to install the USB driver from the provided disk unless you are using Windows® 98 or Windows® 98SE. If you are using Windows® ME, 2000, XP, VISTA or Windows 7 or 8, there is no need to install the USB driver as these operating systems have pre-installed Lumix camera software drivers.

Troubleshooting Steps

  • If you are using USB connections on the front of a desktop system, try using a USB port on the back.
  • If you are using an external USB HUB or multi adapter, try disconnecting the external HUB and connecting the camera directly to the computer system.
  • If you are using the USB connections on the back of your computer and the camera is not already installed, you will need to verify that the camera appears in device manager. It may appear under Other devices or Unknown devices with an exclamation point.
  • One way to confirm that the camera or cable is not faulty is to try connecting the camera to another computer system.
